  6. I stitched my first cross stitch design at age 35, when I wanted to make something for the baby that I was expecting - it was a counted cross stitch Winnie the Pooh design. I am self taught, but I was definitely influenced by my lovely mother in law, who has stitched ever since I have known her!

I already "like" you on facebook, and follow your blog (you have a link back to my blog too, I believe)!!

    Beautiful stash up for grabs!!

    1. I first tried cross stitch way back in 1986-1987 at age 37 when the teen girls at the Christian school that I was a K-5 teacher at would cross stitch and submit to competition. The pieces were so pretty that I wanted to learn. I taught myself by trying small projects. then I lost interest and sold the supplies I had. A few years ago I saw my neighbor stitching and gained my interest back. I started with pre-stamped baby bibs and then a stamped quilt. I am still a novice stitcher but am starting to some little more difficult charts. Now I have many kits, floss, and love to sit and stitch when I can.
I am already a follower of the blog and have already "liked" you on Facebook. Also, I am already part of the yahoo group and love being able to stitch for charity it makes me feel good to be able to give to back to others.
I would love to win the "stash" and use some of the stuff for the stitching I do for the group.

  14. I'm now following your blog and have been following of your fb page. Hopefully I'll be able to stitch something after my move for a quilt. I started stitching when I was a in grade school. I remember loving My Little Ponies and I had a Lite Bright with patterns for them. My mom gave me the idea to take the patterns and use tracing paper on fabric to copy the design and then use whatever colors I wanted making x's where my marks were. Then she made them into pillow's!

  18. Stumbled across your awesome website today. Will like you on FB as soon as I finish this entry.

I went to a local Michael's craft store and saw a kit while I walked looking for something else. I picked up my first kit, and read the instructions and self taught myself. I must have been in my mid-teens at the time. Just love it!

  21. I liked you on FB. I learned to stitch by watching my grandmother embroider. I deciede at age 8 that I could do it just like her, and talked my parents into buying me a stamped on cross stitch kit, and I haven't stopped stitching yet. I still have that project, it's 40 years old now. I can only post here as anonymous, I dont have any of those other accounts.

  22. I bought my first stamped cross stitch when I was about 13 and just followed the directions. I moved on to counted cross stitch in my late twenties because I had trouble finding anything cross stitch and absolutely no stamped kits. I love the internet for giving me access to more possibilities. Now, with a 2 year old at home, I just have to find the time.

  23. I taught myself to cross-stitch--I love to learn from reading directions. Since then, I've taught several little cousins and nieces and nephews. Later in life, my mom started cross-stitching and I now have one of her projects that I'm intending to finish and hang.

Stopped stitching when I had a hectic life for a while and then raised 3 children. I took it up again once the children were older and I then retired 10 years ago so have been cross stitching as much as I can and have time for. Regards Julie

While shopping one day for supplies I came across a cross stitch chart I liked. I got a small leaflet at the time (mid 80s) that explained how to cross stitch, so I am pretty much a self taught stitcher. Thankfully my style and stitches have improved greatly since then.

  52. Liked on FB and Following your blog (Terry's Crafty Fingers). I actually taught myself to stitch when I was 27 years old. I can't believe that was 28 years ago...LOL. I found the cutest kit "Better to try and fail... then never try at all", so I purchased it. I all ready knew how to do regular embroidery and thought that the kit looked easy. When my mother-in-law asked me if I had ever done anything like that and I said no, she then proceeded to tell me how I just wasted DH money and that I would never finish it. Basically saying I was to stupid to teach myself. It was on at that comment...LOL. I finished the piece, and it hangs proudly on my wall, and I've been hooked ever since.
